Meet Hanna Toivakka from Helsinki!
Name: Hanna Toivakka
Tell us something about yourself, when, why and how did you become a model?
I became a model almost ten years ago. There was a hairdresser that worked with fashion and she said I had a strange face in a good way and so she send my pictures to a modelling agency. I think I was fourteen then, a bit too young and I didn’t think I should do anything with it, because I thought I looked weird. After I thought about it for a few years I send my pictures to agencies and then they signed me in and that’s how it started. But I was not really ready for it.
What do you like the most about your job as a model?
Well traveling is great of course and every day is different. You meet a lot of creative people and when you’re doing photo shoots it’s mostly like you’re creating a story. So that’s really interesting.
Which photographers do you prefer to work with?
In Holland or everywhere? If I can choose anyone? I really need to think about this. Well I’ve actually wanted to work with Richard, so now I get to work with him. I like his pictures. Maybe I’ll come up with some other names later.
Who’s your favorite designer?
I really like Stella McCartney because of her values. She doesn’t use any fur or other animals. She does everything very ecological. Beside Stella McCartney I like some Finish designers. I always prefer designers who have good values.
You’re from Helsinki right? What do you like about Helsinki?
It’s quite small in comparison to other capital cities, but it has a lot of charm. The architecture is really cool. There’s a certain cozy feeling when you’re walking the streets, especially when it’s summer. It’s beautiful and I’m raised there so it feels like my home.
What are your favorite hotspots in Helsinki?
There’s like this area, with a bit of a Hipster vibe, which has a lot of nice cool stores and coffee places so that’s an area you should really go to.
Where do you live at the moment?
I live above a Coffee Shop in the west of Amsterdam. I really like that, because sometimes it’s a bit noisy and smelly and it’s a nice area. I live there with my boyfriend.
You travel a lot, but what’s your favorite place in the world?
Well I just came from Costa Rica and now I really think that’s my favorite place. It was amazing. The favorite place where I lived is probably Amsterdam, or Milan, one of those. Amsterdam is just a really cool place. The atmosphere is nice. It’s just a beautiful city, there’s a lot of things to do. And I like Milan because of Italian people. I just had a great time there, so that’s probably why I like it.
You’re a student of arts management, what do you like about art?
I just like creativity in general. At school we’re learning about different stuff, because it’s art management so basically we can manage art. A lot of marketing and stuff like that. It’s just cool that everyone can have their own opinion. And also the artist’s view is so interesting sometimes. It’s cool to hear the story behind it. Art is just a big part of my life in general.
Which artist do you like the most?
Well I like modern art. I don’t really have one favorite artist.
Last but not least, a few more questions about This is Lily. What do you think about the brand?
It’s fresh and colorful. And also edgy. I really like it.
What is your favorite item from our latest collection?
I really like the fox pattern.
Which city do you think is the best place to sell This is Lily?
I would think it would do good in Amsterdam. Maybe I can take it to Finland. And I really think it would work in Berlin, maybe also Paris, I don’t know.
Any last words for This is Lily?
